The Position

On Point is seeking a Civil Inspector for full-time employment. Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and monitoring inspection procedures in accordance with professional and corporate guidelines
  • Monitoring, inspecting, and reporting on construction activities and the implementation of all onsite civil related inspection and test plans
  • Performing internal QA audits to review compliance with corporate policies, practices, and procedures. Creating and maintaining QC/QA control documentation
  • Preparing daily site inspection reports
  • Providing inspection and contract administration support to a Contract Administrator
  • Ensuring adherence to municipal or provincial standards, engineering design drawings, and technical specifications
  • Tracking daily quantities and assisting with the preparation of the monthly payment certificates
  • Reporting on and assisting with the resolution of unforeseen site / construction issues
  • Attending site meetings and taking notes for preparation of site meeting minute reports
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, public agencies, etc. with respect to on site construction activities
  • Preparing redline as-built drawings as the projects progress
  • Following all corporate and regulatory construction safety procedures including the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Training and mentoring junior team members in their day to day inspection activities onsite. Leading by example to promote a high-performance team culture
  • Performing other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management or equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Sound knowledge of the Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD). Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used in the construction and installation of municipal services and facilities such as sewers, waterworks, roads, sidewalks, concrete structures and underground services
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents
  • Good understanding of construction safety
  • Experience in independent quality inspection and construction monitoring
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience with AutoCAD is preferred
  • Highly motivated and self-directed, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn and undertake new challenges
  • Valid driver’s license is required
